Leadville 100
January 27, 2015 by Caroline
This past August Matt Trappe asked me to shoot the Leadville 100 with him for New Balance. I love shooting big trail races. You stake out a pretty spot. Fire away when the runners come by. Scurry to the next spot on the course. Repeat.
When the runners finally go by, they’re always in a different spot than expected. The light is different. The shadows have shifted. And you just gotta go with it. There are no second chances. I love that challenge.

Aug. 15, 2014 – New Balance athlete Liza Howard, at the beginning of the Leadville 100, Leadville, Colorado. Liza placed second for women.
This race we had our eyes on Liza Howard and Zeke Tiernan, two New Balance runners. Both Liza and Zack ran impressive races. Liza actually stopped to breastfeed throughout the race.
Aside from the runners, there’s a lot of emotion and buzz to capture at the Leadville 100. There are crowds of die-hard fans ringing cowbells and drinking beer and yelling for their their favorite runner. Families camped out for the festivities. Vendors. Tons of candid moments.
I love working with New Balance. As usual, we had a great crew! Congratulations to winners Rob Krar and Emma Roca. Thanks to the New Balance folks and everyone who contributed to the Leadville 100!

Dave Mackey (5th overall) and his family cross the finish line at the Leadville 100, Leadville, Colorado.
