Keystone Wedding

December 16, 2013 by Caroline

If you get married in the summer, in the mountains of Colorado, there’s always a chance of thunderstorms. Just as this ceremony in Keystone got underway, it started to lightning, thunder and pour.  Most brides would have lost it. This one handled the potentially devastating in weather with a lighthearted grace, and the ceremony moved into the tent. As a photographer, I suddenly found myself shooting in a less than ideal setting. But the unexpected result was that everyone, brought together by a little adversity, actually had more fun! You could feel the community building around this couple, which was so cool. In my opinion, it couldn’t have turned out better!

Chrissy and Rob

December 16, 2013 by Caroline

For the past year, I’ve been assisting Julie Harris, an incredibly talented and successful photographer who has been shooting weddings for almost 20 years. I first met Julie at my sister’s wedding in Montana. She was the photographer my sister and brother-in-law chose. I’ve always admired Julie’s photojournalistic style, use of film and ability to put everyone around her instantly at ease. She challenges me to shoot from the heart and to capture honest moments as they unfold. In the coming week, I’ll be posting my favorite images from the past year of weddings. Thank you Julie!!!

Rock and Ice #211

September 15, 2013 by Caroline

I was really psyched to contribute photos to Jackie Hueftle’s article on Alex Johnson, Unbroken, in this year’s April Rock and Ice. I thought the article was awesome, in-depth and well written. Here are two portraits of Alex from a shoot we did in the studio, with her dog Fritz, and a couple of climbing photos from the Teva Games in 2010.

Sayulita, Mexico

March 28, 2013 by Caroline

I just spent a week in Mexico with a couple of girlfriends – the first real vacation I’ve taken in years. The best part about it was leaving my laptop at home. Unencumbered by technology, I was able to focus on the following three important things – surfing, eating tacos and shooting photos (for fun!) Here’s a selection of images from the trip – street portraits, soccer games, delicious food and beautiful light. Enjoy!

Melissa and Ray

March 25, 2013 by Caroline

I recently started assisting an amazing photographer in Denver, Julie Harris. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to learn from Julie – she’s talented, inspiring and it’s impossible not to have fun around her – which really shines through in her work and fast, genuine connections with clients. I love with her photojournalistic style and am grateful to have the chance to be her assistant and second shooter. Here’s a selection of photos from a recent wedding in Fraser, Colorado, with the gorgeous Melissa and Ray.

Inside The Box

March 13, 2013 by Caroline

The past few months I’ve had a steady crush of assignments, hence the blog slacking. Recent work includes two new book projects with VeloPress: the Feed Zone Portables cook book, which just went to press a couple of days ago (late April release date?) and a book about CrossFit called Inside the Box which just came out. I feel lucky to work with such an amazing team of chefs, writers, editors, photographers, art directors, designers and publishers, in bringing these big projects to completion. Can’t wait to see the Feed Zone Portables in print!

Cafe Aion Cookbook!

December 14, 2012 by Caroline

For the past year, I’ve been working on a cookbook with Dakota Soifer, chef/owner of Cafe Aion in Boulder, Colorado and Andy Wellman of Greener Grass Publishing. The cookbook reflects Cafe Aion’s menu – Spanish and North African influenced tapas made from super local ingredients, and Soifer’s love for food that’s homegrown and shared. I’ve learned a ton in the past year, especially that a cookbook is a lot of work. And we all have full-time jobs. Since we shoot seasonally, we haven’t exactly been in a rush. But the word has gotten out! Denver Eater just wrote up a small piece on the cookbook. More to come as we get closer!
